Knauf Insulation APAC unites a number of countries in the region, including: Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. In each country we recognize the invaluable contributions that women make to our company, and we pledge to support them in their professional journeys.
We are fortunate to have so many wonderful women contributing to innovations, engineering and technology who inspire us every day. To mark International Women’s Day 2023, we spoke to members of our team from Japan and Malaysia to find out their journeys into the construction industry.
“Women's work rights in Japan have historically been limited, with women facing significant obstacles in terms of career advancement and equal pay. However, there is a growing awareness of the need to address these issues. I feel that at Knauf Insulation it is recognized that everyone's path to success is different, and that we have a supportive workplace that allows each employee to achieve their full potential regardless of gender.
My personal journey with Knauf Insulation APAC is a testament to the many career opportunities available for women within the company. I started out as a customer service coordinator, working closely with our customers to ensure their needs were met and issues resolved. Over time, I was given the chance to take on more responsibility and develop my knowledge of our supply chain operations. This led to my current position as Supply Chain Manager.
I feel a great sense of pride when I visit our glasswool insulation manufacturing plant in Johor, Malaysia and see the incredible work being done by women in both the office and manufacturing”.
Among our talented international team, Nurul Shahida Sahak has played a significant role with many others in the start-up of the Malaysian factory.
By providing equal opportunities and promoting diversity and inclusivity, Knauf Insulation is creating a supportive work environment where team members are given the opportunity to reach their full potential.
My career at Knauf Insulation APAC began in October 2020, just before uncertain pandemic times, when I joined as a Material Replenishment Planner (MRP). As an MRP, I was responsible for ensuring that raw materials and supplies were available for smooth and efficient operations.
Despite the numerous challenges we faced during commissioning period, including the COVID-19 pandemic, I remained focused and determined. It was a challenging time, but with the support of my team and the company, I was able to contribute to the successful start up operations in early 2021 ensuring efficient and responsible sourcing of materials.
One aspect of our diversity that is particularly noteworthy is the increasing number of women who are joining our team. I have seen a growth in the number of women working in this plant compared to the day when I started — even now seeing the gender split pretty much equal in our plant office. Which is an endeavor of Knauf Insulation's commitment to gender equality and inclusivity.
Being in an industry dominated by men, it is inspiring to see Knauf Insulation value gender equality and create opportunities for women to thrive in our workplace. By providing equal opportunities and promoting diversity and inclusivity”.
